The Relationship between Social Capital and Teacher Identification: The Mediating Effect of Leader-Member Exchange

In this research the mediating effect of leader-member exchange in relationship between social capital and teachers’ identification in schools was examined. The study group of the research consist of 233 teachers working in public schools. The data were obtained with Social Capital Scale, Leader-Member Exchange Scale and Organisational Identification Scale. Descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used in the analysis of the data. In the research it was determined that teachers’ perceptions about social capital and leader-member exchange levels are relatively moderate. It was also determined that teachers are highly identified with their schools. As a result of the correlation analysis, there are positively, moderately and highly level and significant relationships among the variables. Path analysis has shown that the leader-member exchange has a mediating effect in the relationship between social capital and teacher identification.

Bu araştırmada okullarda ki sosyal sermaye ile öğretmen özdeşleşmesi ilişkisinde lider-üye etkileşiminin aracı etkisi irdelenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu kamu okullarında görev yapan 233 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma verileri Sosyal Sermaye Ölçeği, Lider-üye Etkileşimi Ölçeği ve Örgütsel Özdeşleşme Ölçeği ile elde edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistikler ve yapısal eşitlik modellemesi (YEM) kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada öğretmenlerin okullardaki sosyal sermaye ve lider-üye etkileşimi kalitesini orta düzeyde algıladıkları saptanmıştır. Ayrıca öğretmenlerin okulları ile yüksek düzeyde özdeşleştikleri belirlenmiştir. Korelasyon analizi sonucunda, değişkenler arasında pozitif yönde, orta ve yüksek düzeyde ve anlamlı ilişkiler olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Yol analizi ise sosyal sermaye ile öğretmen özdeşleşmesi ilişkisinde lider-üye etkileşiminin “kısmi aracı” etkisine sahip olduğunu göstermiştir.
