Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism is an unethical act that involves copying a person's prior ideas, processes, results, or words without explicit acknowledgement of the original source or author.

Submitted manuscripts are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process. The editorial board of the İstanbul 29 Mayıs University Journal of Education takes the issue of plagiarism very seriously and acts with strict diligence.

Types of Plagiarism

Complete Plagiarism: Previously published content is considered complete plagiarism when reproduced without any alteration in text, ideas, or grammar. Submitting an entire text taken from a source as one's own is known as complete plagiarism.

Partial Plagiarism: When the content is a mixture of material from several different sources, which the author has extensively paraphrased, this is also known as partial plagiarism.

Self-Plagiarism: Self-plagiarism occurs when an author reuses all or part of their previously published research. Republishing an author's previously published work in a new journal is also considered self-plagiarism.

Plagiarism Action Plan and Journal's Measures

The Journal respects intellectual property and aims to protect and promote the original work of its authors. Works containing plagiarism violate standards of quality, research, and innovation. Therefore, all authors submitting articles to the Journal are expected to adhere to ethical standards and avoid all forms of plagiarism.

If plagiarism is suspected in a submitted or published article, the Journal's Editorial Board first examines the work. Subsequently, the work is reviewed by the Board of Editors. The Journal then contacts the author(s) to request their explanations within 15 days. If no response is received from the author within the specified period, the Journal will contact the author's affiliated university and request an investigation of the allegation.

The Journal will take the following serious measures against published articles found to contain plagiarism:

The Journal will immediately contact the author(s)' affiliated university for necessary action against the concerned author.

The Journal will remove the PDF copy of the published article from the website, delete it from the complete issue file, and disable all links to the published article. The phrase "Plagiarized Article" will be added to the title of the published article.

The Journal will disable the author's account and reject all future submissions from the author for a period of 5 years.

Note: Readers who identify an error or inaccuracy in a published article can file a complaint by emailing egitimdergisi@29mayis.edu.tr.

Authors must submit the similarity report for new manuscripts submitted to the Journal. Manuscripts that pass initial screening are scanned using the Turnitin plagiarism detection software.

If plagiarism/self-plagiarism is detected, the authors are informed. Articles with high similarity rates (maximum 20% overall) or containing more than 5% similarity from a single source may be rejected or returned to the author for revision to reduce the similarity rate.
