Politeness and Principles of Politeness in Contemporary Chinese

Abstract

Politeness, one of the prominent phenomena in the relationship between language and culture, has such norms that vary from society to society as language and culture. These norms turn into a social behavior form by taking shape according to the cultural and moral values of each society. Since ancient times, Chinese society has been known for its importance to the rules of morality and respect. Politeness rules, which have a distinctive place in Chinese through culture and moral rules, are much more than the theories of politeness put forward by Western researchers such as Lakoff, Leech, Brown and Levinson, and they have different linguistic, structural and cultural characteristics. Thus, in this study, first of all, the theories of politeness put forward by Western researchers will be examined the historical origin of the concept of politeness in China will be given and the Principles of Politeness in Contemporary Chinese will be emphasized by the Chinese linguist Gu Yueguo (1990). The aim of this study is to shed light on the researches to be done on Politeness in Contemporary Chinese in our country and to introduce the principles of politeness peculiar to Chinese, which has different characteristics than the language of politeness in the West.

Çağdaş Çincede Nezaket ve Nezaket İlkeleri

Abstract

Dil ve kültür ilişkisinde öne çıkan olgulardan biri olan nezaket, dil ve kültür gibi toplumdan topluma değişen normlara sahiptir. Bu normlar, her toplumun kültürel ve ahlak değerlerine göre şekil alarak toplumsal bir davranış formuna dönüşmektedir. Antik çağlardan itibaren Çin toplumu ahlak ve saygı kurallarına verdiği önem ile tanınmaktadır. Kültür ve ahlak kuralları aracılığıyla Çincede kendine özgü bir yer edinen nezaket kuralları, Batılı araştırmacılardan Amerikalı Dilbilimci Robin Lakoff’un, İngiliz dilbilimci Geoffrey Neil Leech’in, Amerikalı dilbilimci Penelope Brown ve İngiliz sosyalbilimci Stephen G. Levinson’ın öne sürdüğü nezaket kuramlarından çok daha farklı dilsel, yapısal ve kültürel özellikler taşımaktadır. Bu nedenle bu çalışmada, öncelikle Batılı araştırmacılar tarafından ileri sürülen nezaket kuramları incelenecek, daha sonra Çin’de nezaket kavramının tarihsel kökeni hakkında bilgi verilerek Çinli dilbilimci Gu Yueguo (1990) tarafından ortaya koyulan Çağdaş Çincedeki Nezaket İlkeleri üzerinde durulacaktır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, ülkemizde Çağdaş Çincede nezaket üzerine yapılacak araştırmalara ışık tutmak ve Batıdaki nezaket dilinden daha farklı özellikler gösteren Çinceye özgü nezaket ilkelerini tanıtmaktır.
