An analogy between archives and
memory is common throughout the world. However, this analogy in our country
leads to a conclusion: Archives and their applications are only an element of
the past and in general should refer to the strong and glorious history of the
past and the system of values for today, although their importance and
references to the future are not taken into consideration. even if things are
ignored or destroyed. However, from the disciplinary field of memory, the
concept of memory is intertwined with remembering, keeping as well as
forgetting, changing, deleting as a human trait. It is mostly individual,
individual agglomeration and similarities form social memory. Social memory is
also in a sphere of forgings, deletions and alterations. The archives, which
are considered as the memory of the society and the states, have emerged as a
protective and reminder measure against these individual and social forgeries,
alterations, deletions, and have to be managed when the accumulation is
increased, and have become an inseparable part of the management act in terms
of the information assets it covers in later stages. In the modern world, it
has become one of the main points of every technical product imaginable and
their operating systems together with the communication and information element
that permeates every area of life. When we move from this point, the archives
are the elements of a structure or reality different from memory. This article
tries to trace the traces of this different element. It is aimed to analyze
what is the difference by mentioning what the memory is, its similarities with
the archive, and the features that distinguish it from it in the modern world.
Short explanations are made in the footnotes about the names mentioned in the
article and the quotations. It is aimed to mediate those who are interested in
the subject to make readings and develop new ideas based on these explanations.
