Evaluation of tensile bond strength between the thulium fiber laser applied denture base material and the soft lining material at different power levels: A pilot study

Year 2023, Volume: 2 Issue: 1, 9 - 13, 24.02.2023

Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the effects of different power thulium laser on the bond strength of silicone-based soft lining material.
Material and Methods: One hundred heat-polymerized polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) based tensile stress test specimens(36x12x7 mm) were prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions. Thulium laser of different power(2, 2.4, 3, 3.4 Watt) was applied to the surfaces of the samples. Surface treated two acrylic samples were polymerized by applying a silicon-based soft primer to their surfaces. It was kept in a water bath at 37 °C for 24 hours. Then, tensile stress tests were applied to the samples in a universal testing device. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests were used to evaluate the data.
Results: The highest average bond strength value was observed in the 2nd group samples, and the lowest average bond strength value was observed in the 4th group samples. The differences between group 1 (Control) and group 2 (2 Watt) were statistically significant(p=0.001). However, there was no statistically significant difference in bond strength values between group 1 and group 3 (2.4 Watt), group 4(3 Watt) and group 5(3.4 Watt) samples(p>0.05).
Conclusion: Different strengths of the Thulium laser affect the bond strength between PMMA and soft lining material. In addition, it is the best value in the group in increasing the bond strength of the laser applied at 2 Watt power.

Farklı Güç Seviyelerindeki Thulium Fiber Lazer Uygulanan Protez Kaide Maddesi ile Yumuşak Astar Materyalinin Bağlantısının Değerlendirilmesi: Pilot Çalışma

Year 2023, Volume: 2 Issue: 1, 9 - 13, 24.02.2023
