ABSTRACT
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the optical properties of 4 different thicknesses of two different lithium disilicate glass ceramic and resin nano ceramic CAD/CAM restorative materials with the value of the translucency parameter. Material and Methods: A total of 80 disks, specimens were prepared from high translucency (HT) A1 color lithium disilicate glass ceramic (IPS e.max® CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent, Lihtenstein) and resin nano-ceramic (CERASMART™ CAD, GC, Tokyo, Japonya) CAD/CAM blocks at 0.5 mm, 1 mm, 1.5 mm, and 2 mm thicknesses (n=10) (14x12 mm2). The surfaces of the test samples were grinded with 600, 800 and 1200 grain silicon carbide abrasives under water cooling. After ultrasonic cleaning, the thicknesses of the test samples were checked with a digital caliper. Crystallization and glazing process was performed on the outer surfaces of the lithium disilicate glass ceramic samples, and the outer surfaces of the resin nano-ceramic samples were polished by polishing paste with the help of silicon discs. After glazins and polishing process were completed, the thicknesses of the samples were rechecked and the color measurements of the test samples were performed with a clinical spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade® V). All samples were evaluated on white and black backgrounds for the determination of the translucency parameter (TP) according to the CIE L*a*b* system. The spectrophotometer was calibrated before each measurement. Measurements were repeated 3 times for each sample and the average of the measurements was calculated. Results: There were a statistically significant difference in TP measurement between different thicknesses in all variables (p<0.05). A statistically significant difference was found in TP measurement between different materials in all variables (p<0.05). Conclusion: All test samples were significantly affected by the thickness. TP values were decreased when the thickness of the test specimens were increased. The tested resin-nano-ceramic (CERASMART) samples exhibited higher TP values than the lithium disilicate-reinforced glass ceramic samples in the same thickness groups.
