Opinions of Teachers and Students About Use of Smart Board in Mathematics Courses
Abstract
The current study aims at identifying the opinions of the math teachers and secondary students on the use of smart board in the mathematics courses and to suggest the reflections of the smart board use by observing these courses. The study involved four math teachers working at an Anatolian High School in a city and four 12th grade students studying in this school. The data of the present study was collected using the semi-structured interview and non-structured observation techniques. In the data analysis, content analysis technique was used and four categories were created. As a result of the analysis, evidence was found out that the teachers and the students did not have any difficulties in using the smart board technically and the smart board was effective in creating different figures and drawings in especially geometry courses. On the other hand, it was determined that the teachers could not use the smart board relevant to the purpose due to the intensive curriculum and exam-based education system and the smart board had adverse effects on the note-taking of the students and caused noise sometimes.
