This research was put into effect for determining eighth grade students’ general cultural knowledge levels and the variations of these levels in terms of gender. In this investigation as we research the general cultural knowledge level of students, we used descriptive survey method based on quantitative research methods. The study sample is comprised of 200 eighth grade students studying at different secondary schools of Ministry of National Education in 2015-2016 fall semester in Hatay. During data collection a 40-question general cultural knowledge test, which was developed by the researcher and had a 0.734 reliability value, was used. Related test consisted of History, Geography and Current Issues questions. The developed test was applied to the sample group and the obtained data were analyzed by an appropriate statistical program. Average of responses were received from students and comparisons were made by gender. Furthermore, each part of the test was analyzed separately and evaluations were performed. According to the findings of this study, it was found out that the general cultural knowledge level of the students were below theaverage. In contrast, in general cultural knowledge test success there was a significant difference in favor of males. History, Geography and Current Issues test results involved a low achievement result. This case shows that students cannot benefit from it though they have an easy access to information. As these students are in abstract operation periods, their teachers and parents are responsible to make sure that these young people effectively benefit from Information technologies. In this context, some suggestions were made depending on the results of the study.
