Myths Related to Childhood Sexual Abuse and Gender Equality

Abstract

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is an important social problem observed in the world in general. This study initially aimed to identify whether the Gender Equality Scale was a valid and reliable measurement device for use in adult individuals. Validity and reliability studies for the Gender Equality Scale were performed with 353 adults reached though an online survey. Secondly, a total of 769 individuals were reached through online surveys to determine predictors of CSA myths. According to the findings, firstly the Gender Equality Scale was determined to be a valid and reliable tool for use with adults. Moreover, the variables of gender, the understanding that men are superior and the understanding that women are dependent on men explain 38% of the CSA myths, while only the understanding that men are superior significantly predicted CSA myths. Consequently, studies may be completed in accordance with the ecologic system approach with other layers in society, not just adults, in order to reduce sexism led by the understanding that men are superior.

Çocukluk Dönemi Cinsel İstismarı İle İlgili Mitler ve Cinsiyet Eşitliği

Abstract

Çocukluk dönemi cinsel istismarı (ÇCİ) mitleri hem çocuğun yaşamında da hem de toplumda olumsuz doğurgular oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışma, öncelikle Toplumsal Cinsiyet Eşitliği Ölçeği’nin yetişkin bireylerde kullanım için geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçüm aracı olup olmadığını belirlemeyi amaçlamıştır. Toplumsal Cinsiyet Eşitliği Ölçeği’nin geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışması çevrimiçi anket yoluyla ulaşılan 353 yetişkin birey üzerinde yapılmıştır. İkinci olarak, CSA mitlerinin yordayıcılarını belirlemek için çevrimiçi anketler yoluyla toplam 769 kişiye ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre Toplumsal Cinsiyet Eşitliği Ölçeği’nin yetişkin bireyler üzerinde de kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca ÇCİ mitlerinin, erkeği üstün gören anlayış tarafından anlamlı olarak yordandığı; buna rağmen kadını erkeğe bağımlı kılan anlayış ve cinsiyet tarafından yordanmadığı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca cinsiyet değişkenleri, erkeklerin üstün olduğu anlayış ve kadınların erkeğe bağımlı olduğu anlayış CSA mitlerinin %38'ini açıklarken, sadece erkeklerin üstün olduğu anlayış CSA mitlerini anlamlı olarak yordamaktadır. Sonuç olarak, erkeklerin üstün olduğu anlayışının öncülük ettiği cinsiyetçiliği azaltmak için sadece yetişkinlerle değil toplumun diğer katmanlarıyla da ekolojik sistem yaklaşımına uygun çalışmalar tamamlanabilir.
