School Administrators’ Use Level of Knowledge Management Strategies

Abstract

This paper aims to determine use level of knowledge management strategies for secondary school administrators who are principals and vice-principals. Quantitative descriptive method is used. A questionnaire is administered to the administrators in central districts of Gaziantep. 169 of returned questionnaires are valid. Findings of this study show that (i) school administrators acquire knowledge from most frequently their own observations, experiences and, intuitions; (ii) mostly share their knowledge with colleagues and teachers in their schools; (iii) utilize knowledge which is acquired from their own experiences and colleagues in their schools in order to make decisions and solve problems regarding their schools and,(iv) store acquired knowledge firstly in computer and secondly in the form of hard copy. The study also reveals that school administrators use knowledge acquisition, sharing, utilization and, storing strategies in very often. However, school administrators have relatively less interaction among parents and members of parent-teacher association who are crucial shareholders for school on acquiring, sharing and utilizing of knowledge. In other words, these shareholders have participation on process of decision-making and problem-solving in schools. We think that when school administrators’ opportunities of communication and interaction with parents and parent-teacher association, this participation will increase.

Okul Yöneticilerinin Bilgi Yönetimi Stratejilerini Kullanma Düzeyleri

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, ortaöğretim kurumlarında görev yapan okul yöneticilerinin bilgi yönetimi stratejilerini kullanma düzeylerini belirlemektir. Araştırma nicel yaklaşımla yapılmış betimsel bir çalışmadır. Verileri toplamak için kullanılan anket, Gaziantep ili merkez ilçelerinde bulunan ortaöğretim kurumlarında görevli yöneticilere uygulanmış ve 169 anket geçerli sayılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda okul yöneticilerinin bilgiyi en sık kendi gözlemlerinden, tecrübe ve sezgilerinden elde ettikleri, edindikleri bilgileri en çok okuldaki diğer yöneticiler ve öğretmenler ile paylaştıkları, okulla ilgili sorunları çözerken ve kararlar alırken yine en çok kendi tecrübelerinden ve okuldaki diğer yöneticilerden elde ettikleri bilgileri kullandıkları ve elde ettikleri bilgileri ise öncelikle bilgisayarlarda ve sonra basılı olarak saklamayı tercih ettikleri görülmüştür. Ayrıca, okul yöneticilerinin bilgiyi elde etme, paylaşma, kullanma ve depolama stratejilerini yeterli düzeyde kullandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Ancak, yöneticilerin, bilgi elde etme, paylaşma ve kullanma aşamalarında, veliler ve okul aile birliği gibi önemli paydaşlarla görece daha az etkileşim içinde oldukları, dolayısıyla bu paydaşların okulun problem çözme ve karar alma süreçlerine daha az katıldıkları belirlenmiştir. Okul yöneticilerinin, veliler ve okul aile birliğiyle iletişim ve etkileşim fırsatlarının artırılmasıyla, bu katılımın artacağı düşünülmektedir.
