Abstract

Abstract

Nowadays, the use of digital content and technology has become very common among children. In line with this situation, the concept of digital addiction has emerged and digital addiction can affect children cognitively, physically, socio-emotionally, biologically and spiritually. This study aimed to examine the effect of digital addiction level on sleep disorders and eating awareness levels in children. 877 children were included in the study group of this research, which was conducted in a relational screening model, using the criterion sampling method. The data obtained using the digital addiction scale in children, the sleep disorder scale in children and the eating awareness scale in children were examined by normality tests, extreme and outlier analyses, and then Pearson correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that the level of digital addiction is a predictor of sleep disorders and eating awareness, and a positive, medium-level significant relationship was detected between them. As a result, it has been found that increasing the level of digital independence in children may increase sleep disorders such as sleep disruption, snoring, inability to sleep, sweating during sleep, sleep talking, sleepwalking, and insufficient and poor quality sleep. Similarly, it has been concluded that an increase in the level of digital addiction in children may negatively affect their understanding and feeling of what and how much they eat, their enjoyment of eating, eating healthy enough and for an appropriate period of time, and may increase unconscious eating behavior.
