Some Ecological Features of Van Lizard Darevskia sapphirina

Abstract

There are a limited number of studies on the Van Lizard, Darevskia sapphirina Schmidtler, et al., 1994 , which is known to distribute in a single locality in Turkey, up to now. This study aimed to determine the distribution area, population size, factors threatening species and precautions to be taken for them. As a result of the field studies, it was determined that Van Lizard distributed also in two different land areas, at 5 km NW Derecik-Zallı Villages and 5 km SW Duracak-Ortayayla Villages of its type locality. As a result of the studies performed at the type locality, its population size was estimated as 140. We suggested that this species should be listed as “EN+2b1 Endangered ” instead of its current IUCN status “LC Least Concern ”, taking into account the results of the present study

Van Kertenkelesi Darevskia sapphirina ’nin Bazı Ekolojik Özellikleri

Abstract

Günümüze kadar Türkiye’de tek bir lokalitede yayılış gösterdiği bilinen Van Kertenkelesi, Darevskia sapphirina Schmidtler et al., 1994 hakkında sınırlı sayıda çalışma bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışma ile türün yayılış alanı, popülasyon büyüklüğü, türü tehdit eden etmenler ve bunlar için alınması gereken önlemlerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yapılan arazi çalışmaları sonucunda Van Kertenkele’sinin bilinen tip lokalitesinin yaklaşık 5 km kuzeybatısında Derecik-Zallı köyleri ve 5 km güneybatısında Duracak-Ortayayla köyleri olmak üzere, iki farklı alanda daha dağılış gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Tip lokalitesinde gerçekleştirilen çalışmalar sonucu popülasyon büyüklüğünün 140 olduğu tahmin edilmiştir. IUCN listelerinde “LC Least Concern ” kategorisinde yer alan türün, yapılan çalışmalar sonucunda “EN+2b1 Endangered ” kategorisinde yer alması gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır
