Turkish Validity and Reliability Study of the Trauma Scale in Disaster Situations for Adolescents

Abstract

Disasters are natural, human-induced or technological events that disrupt or completely stop the normal lives of individuals, resulting in loss of life and property, and whose time, place and magnitude are usually unknown. Every year, as in the rest of the world, different types of disasters occur in our country, and many people suffer from these situations. When it comes to loss of life and property in our country, the most damaging type of disaster is earthquakes. The most recent earthquake on February 6, 2023, centered in Kahramanmaraş, occurred at 04:17 with a magnitude of 7.7, followed by a second earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 at 13:24. Millions of people had to deal with the terrible effects of the earthquake, which struck 11 provinces and destroyed thousands of lives. Regretfully, people are still negatively impacted by earthquakes today. The Trauma Scale in Disaster Situations for Adolescent, created by Ejaz and Ara (2010), will be the subject of a validity and reliability study in Turkish as well as an introduction to Turkish literature. The scale has a 10-item, single-factor structure, just like in its original source, according to the findings of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis carried out in accordance with the objectives. The Turkish version of the scale was also confirmed to be valid and reliable.
