Evaluation of the Effects of Foreign Trade on Mark-up ın Turkish Manufacturing Industry

Year 2020, Volume: 22 Issue: 3, 979 - 996, 25.12.2020

Abstract

In terms of examining the effects of foreign trade on firm behavior and market structure, the effects of foreign trade on mark-up is one of the major interests of both theoretical and applied international economics literature. In this context, the aim of this study is examining the impacts of foreign trade on mark-ups for 189 sub-sectors of Turkish manufacturing industry by using panel data analysis during the 2004-2015 period. The results show that there is a positive relationship between mark-up and import penetration rate in total and competitive manufacturing sectors, and a negative relationship between mark-ups and export intensity. Additionally, sectoral real exchange rate, concentration ratio and total employment variables also have a positive effect on mark-ups in all manufacturing industry sub-sectors.

Türkiye İmalat Sanayii’nde Dış Ticaretin Mark-up Üzerindeki Etkilerinin Değerlendirilmesi

Year 2020, Volume: 22 Issue: 3, 979 - 996, 25.12.2020
