Investigating the Role of Psychological Birth Order in Predicting Resilience

Abstract

In this study, investigating the relationship between psychological birth order and resilience in university students was aimed. Also, it was examined whether or not the university students’ resilience di1ffers in terms of gender and department variables. The sample of the study included 301 female (66. 9 %) 149 male (33.1 %), totally 450 undergraduate students attending the different departments of Fatih Faculty of Education in Karadeniz Technical University. As the data collection tools, Resiliency Scale, Psychological Birth Order Inventory and Personal Data Form were used in the study. When the findings of the study were examined, it was seen that resilience of university students was negatively correlated with the oldest and the youngest child psychological birth order and positively correlated with middle and the only child psychological birth order. Also, it was found that psychological birth order was a significant predictor of resilience. The findings of the study showed that female students were superior to male students in terms of resilience scores. This study was carried out with university students; it was unknown whether or not they were under risk. It is thought that the carrying out new studies including under risk university student samples also examining different variables is necessary
