Kanada'daki Medya Okuryazarlığı Eğitimi Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

Kanada’da 1960’lı yılların sonlarındaki “Ekran Eğitimi” dersleriyle ortaya çıkan medya
okuryazarlığı eğitimi çabaları günümüzde çok daha kapsamlı bir yapıya kavuşmuştur. Medya okuryazarlığı
disiplinler arası bir yaklaşım çerçevesince İngilizce Dil Bilimleri, Sosyal Bilgiler, Sağlık Eğitimi ve Bilgiİletişim Teknolojileri gibi programların bir parçası olarak temel eğitim seviyesinde etkin olarak
uygulanmaktadır. Kanada’nın medya okuryazarlığındaki lider konumu, bu çalışmanın ortaya konulmasında
önemli bir etken olmuştur. Çalışmada, alanda böylesine önemli bir yeri olan Kanada’nın medya okuryazarlığı
eğitimi konusundaki deneyimini incelemek ve dikkat çeken yönlerini ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Konuyla
ilgili literatür incelendikten sonra Kanada’nın medya okuryazarlığı eğitimi konusundaki deneyimi “medya
okuryazarlığı eğitiminin temelleri, medya okuryazarlığı eğitimi kuruluşları, ebeveyn eğitimi, öğretmen
eğitimi, öğretim programlarında medya okuryazarlığı eğitimi, öğretim uygulamalarında medya okuryazarlığı
eğitimi, ölçme ve değerlendirme ve Kanada deneyiminden sonuçlar” gibi başlıklar altında analiz edilerek
sunulmuştur. Sonuç olarak Kanada medya okuryazarlığı eğitimi konusunda önemli birikimlere sahip bir
ülkedir. Bununla birlikte iki konuda diğer ülkelere göre çok daha önde olduğu görülmektedir: “Medya
okuryazarlığı eğitiminin öğretim programlarıyla ilişkilendirilmesi ve medya okuryazarlığı eğitimi
konusundaki kurumsallaşma”.

AN EVALUATION OF MEDIA LITERACY EDUCATION IN CANADA

Abstract

In Canada, the efforts of media literacy education began under the banner of “screen education”
have a more comprehensive framework today. Media literacy is integrated as an interdisciplinary approach to
the English Language Arts, the Social Studies, the Health Education and the Information and Communication
Technology curricular. Canada’s leadership and a rooted tradition in media literacy education are caused to
make this study. The main purpose of this study is to introduce Canada’s experiences and distinctive features
in the field. After a review of the relevant literature, Canada’s experience and distinctive features were
examined and analyzed under eight themes. These are “The Foundations of Media Literacy Education, The
Organizations of Media Literacy Education, Parent Education, Teacher Education, Media Literacy Education
in the Curriculum, Media Literacy Education in the Teaching Practices, Measurement and Evaluation, and
Results of the Canadian Experience”. Consequently, Canada is one of the leading countries in terms of media
literacy education in the world and shine out in two issues: “Integrating Media Literacy Education into
Curriculum and Institutionalization in Media Literacy Education”.
