The Flora of Kavaklıdere (Muğla) Marble Quarry area, and the impacts of marble quarries on ecosystem
Abstract
Comprehensive floristic surveys conducted in and around the marble quarry areas of Kavaklıdere District (Muğla, Türkiye) resulted in the identification of 161 species and subspecies belonging to 43 plant families. This study evaluates the ecological impacts of marble quarrying activities on local flora and fauna, with particular emphasis on habitat loss, vegetation degradation, and changes in species composition. The results indicate that intensive quarrying activities have caused substantial direct and indirect ecological disturbances, highlighting the need for effective rehabilitation and conservation strategies in quarry-affected landscapes.
