The Anatolian Journal of Philosophy

AJP aims to understand and explain the relationship between philosophy and life and to produce international scientific publications that will discuss how life and thought have influenced each other throughout history.

The Journal of Anatolian Philosophy (AJP) is an academic journal that aims to publish original and qualified articles, interviews, discussions and papers based on scientific research in philosophy.

Having started its publication by adopting the idea that “Experiences are the premises of thoughts”, AJP sees philosophy as an activity intertwined with life. Even though in philosophy, metaphysics or utopian thoughts that transcend reality have been put forward with speculation based on reason, these thoughts are ultimately based on the philosophers’ life experiences and observations. Therefore, although philosophical thought sometimes transcends reality in a speculative and abstract way, it ultimately originates from the reality and authenticity of life. However, philosophical thought is also an attempt to organize and shape life.

Although it is transcendent to reality, it somehow affects the reality of life. In this context, the journal aims to publish studies revealing how life and thought have influenced each other throughout history. In this context, articles that show the relationship between a philosopher's thoughts and life and experience, that reveal the effects or possible effects of a philosopher's thoughts on life (the period in which he lived or today), that discuss different ideas developed on a problem and the effects of these ideas on the problem will be accepted for evaluation. The journal will include original research articles, critiques, interviews, unpublished papers, and translations prepared for this purpose and scope.

The studies sent to the journal must be prepared according to the purpose, scope, and content specified below.

 Studies discuss how philosophical accumulation will contribute to understanding and solving current problems. In other words, studies discussing thoughts caused by a reality or realities shaped by thoughts.

 Studies explain the relationship between a philosopher's thought and historical, social, economic, etc., conditions that shape his thought.

 Studies discuss the contributions a philosopher has made or will potentially cause to the understanding and solving various problems in education, culture, justice, ethics, etc. or the reality shaped and influenced by his thoughts.

 Studies discussing the philosophical thought necessary for understanding and solving current problems.

 Studies discussing the problems that will arise in the future under the guidance of philosophical thought.

 Studies introducing new original thoughts caused by problems specific to the era or region.

The purpose of the study to be handled in line with the specified themes should be clearly stated both in the abstract and in the introduction of the study. After that, according to the way the subject is handled, this purpose should be discussed by justifying it in the development section and the conclusion section.

Studies in which only theoretical ideas are discussed and do not consider the intertwining of life and thought will not be evaluated.

Author Guidelines

Authors should prepare their studies with internationally recognised ethical principles. At this point, although all scientific, ethical and legal responsibility for the studies submitted to the journal belongs to the authors, the editor(s) and the editorial board may request an ethics committee certificate when necessary. Studies that the Editorial Board does not find appropriate for research and publication ethics are not subject to evaluation.

- Author name and address: The manuscripts are sent to the referees through the system with the referee file created by deleting the identifying information (name, surname, e-mail, etc.) as in the file uploaded by the author to the system. To ensure author-referee confidentiality, the editors should be informed by the author about the information identifying the author of the article (paper, thesis, etc.) other than identifying information.

- Article Text: Manuscripts should not exceed 8,000 words, should be prepared as a Word file, and 10.5-point Times New Roman font should be used, except for the special cases of some study areas. If a special font is used in the study, it must be sent with the manuscript. The study should start with the Introduction section, which should focus on the hypothesis, scope and purpose of the study. The Development section, which can be divided into intermediate and subheadings, should be supported by data, observations, opinions, comments and discussions. In the Conclusion section, the conclusions reached in the study should be explained by supporting them with suggestions. Except in mandatory cases, the current Spelling Guide of the Turkish Language Association should be taken as a basis.

- Page Structure: Page margins should be set as top 1,75 left 2,5 bottom 1,5 right 2 cm. The text should be written with 6 pt and 1.5 line spacing before and after the paragraph.

- Title: Studies should be titled in Turkish and English. Titles should consist of a maximum of 13 (thirteen) words, and the first letter of the words should be capitalised. All titles in the text should be written in bold with the first letter capitalised.

- Titles within the Article: In the article, main and subheadings should be created based on the number system according to the subject's processing.

- Abstract and Abstract: There should be an abstract in Turkish and English in the range of 120-220 words, which expresses the subject discussed in the study in the shortest and most concise form. Under both abstracts, at least 4 and 6 keywords and their English versions should be included. Abstract sections should be written in 9 font size and single line spacing.

- Photographs, Maps and Tables: Care should be taken not to deviate from the page structure of the photographs, plans and tables used in the text. Such documents should be in a resolution suitable for the printing technique and numbered if there is more than one. Table, photograph and map numbers should be centred and bold above the relevant figure.

- Quotations and Footnotes: Direct quotations shorter than five lines in quotation marks: ‘Quote’ in quotation marks. Quotations longer than five lines should be written 1 cm from the right and left of the line, 1.15 line spacing and 10 pt. Footnotes should be written in 10 pt, 3 pt before and after the paragraph, single line spacing and justified.

Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Ethical Principles

In the publication process, all parties involved (authors, editors, reviewers, publishers) must agree on the expected standards of ethical conduct.

International Standards for Publication/Editorial Boards

1. Editors and Editorial Board members must adhere to international publishing standards. AJP’s editors and editorial board members are expected to voluntarily adhere to international standards (see Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). https://publicationethics.org/).

2. The Editorial Board must keep all author, reviewer, and manuscript information confidential.

3. The Editorial Board is responsible for deciding whether submitted manuscripts will be evaluated and published after evaluation.

4. The Editorial Board must base its decisions solely on the importance, originality, clarity, and relevance of the manuscripts to the publication's scope.

5. The Editorial Board is obliged to act impartially in the evaluation of studies and selection of referees by academic principles (competence, absence of conflict of interest, blind refereeing, competent evaluation, healthy communication, etc.).

6. The Editorial Board should try to meet the needs of readers and authors.

7. The Editorial Board should try to increase the quality of AJP's writing and publications.

8. The Editorial Board should give importance to scientific quality and originality in line with the purpose and scope of the journal.

9. The Editorial Board should publish corrections, explanations, retractions and apologies when necessary.

10. The Editorial Board should act according to the "Study Evaluation Process" determined for AJP. It should make the necessary effort to ensure that authors and referees act within these periods.

International Standards for Publishers

1. AJP is an academic journal published by the Philosophy Department of Erzurum Technical University. The journal is expected to voluntarily comply with international publisher standards (Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). https://publicationethics.org/) that hold the official franchise.

2. Neither the publisher nor any external agent may make any claim that violates AJP's editorial independence or interferes with the publication process.

3. The publisher is responsible for protecting the intellectual property and copyright of all works published in AJP.

4. The publisher is committed to providing permanent and free access to all works published in AJP by the Open Access principle.

5. The publisher does not charge any fees under any name from authors during the submission and publication process of articles.

6. The publisher takes the necessary measures to archive and preserve online content.

International Standards for Authors

1. AJP does not request a signed letter of application from all authors of an article and does not engage in practices that impose orders on authors. All authors applying to AJP are expected to voluntarily comply with international standards (Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). https://publicationethics.org/).

2. Articles must be the original work of the authors. There should be no unethical situations such as plagiarism, fabrication, forgery, slicing, duplicate publication, unfair authorship, or data production in the articles.

3. The responsibility of the studies published in the journal in terms of science and language belongs to the authors, and AFD cannot be held responsible in this regard. The ethical and legal responsibility of the studies belongs to the author(s).

4. Authors should not cause physical and legal harm and psychological abuse to the research participants in their studies, requiring ethics committee approval. They should also guarantee confidentiality and anonymity regarding the private lives of the research participants.

5. Authors should declare the person or institutions (sponsor) supporting the research, as well as any conflict of interest.

6. Authors should confirm that their studies have not been published before and have not sent them to any journal for publication elsewhere at the same time.

7. Authors must cite appropriately in the preparation of their articles and ensure that all sources used are listed in the bibliography.

8. Individuals listed as authors in the study must have taken a personal role in the preparation of the study and made significant contributions. Individuals who contributed to certain stages of the study should be listed as contributors.

9. Authors must complete the recommendations made by the referees within the given time period due to the evaluation. However, authors must prepare a response text regarding the referees' recommendations and inform the referees about the corrections they made or did not make.

10. If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must immediately notify the editor or publisher and take the necessary steps to retract or correct the article.

11. AJP uses various plagiarism detection programs (iThenticate and intihal.net) to determine the similarity rate for all articles. Authors must absolutely avoid plagiarism. The similarity rate of the articles must not exceed 20%. The process of studies that do not comply with research publication ethics or carry a risk of plagiarism is terminated at any stage.

12. When authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published articles, it is the author's obligation to immediately inform the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the article.

International Standards for Reviewers

1. Reviewers must comply with international review standards after accepting the review invitation. AJP reviewers are expected to voluntarily comply with international standards (Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). https://publicationethics.org/).

2. Reviewers must keep information about the author and the article confidential, and no information about the study should be shared with third parties.

3. If the reviewers feel inadequate to review a study or realize that they will not be able to complete the review in the allotted time, the editor should be informed as soon as possible.

4. The reviewers should bring all information that may cause the rejection of the study they are reviewing to the attention of the Editorial Board.

5. The reviewers should objectively evaluate the articles according to their scientific originality, importance and suitability for the journal's purpose and scope.

6. The reviewers should provide the authors with the necessary suggestions regarding the systematics of the study, the arguments it is based on, the justifications used and the sources regarding the deficiencies of the studies that require major or minor revisions.

7. The reviewers are independent of the authors. For this reason, if the reviewers somehow obtain information about the author of the study they are reviewing, they should cease their duty as reviewers by informing the editor.

8. The reviewers should notify AJP if any conflict of interest arises.

9. The reviewers' evaluations should be done objectively and in a balanced manner, and criticisms of the study should be made. Personal criticism should not be directed at the author. They should express their views on the study clearly with supporting arguments.

Publishing Principles

- The manuscripts to be submitted to AJP must not have been previously published or accepted for publication anywhere and must be original and in accordance with academic standards. The editorial office of the journal should be notified of studies produced from a paper or thesis previously presented at a scientific meeting. Translations can also be included in the journal.

- The journal's publication language is Turkish and English.

- The journal is published twice yearly, in Spring and Autumn (March and September). If necessary, a Special Issue may be published with the decision of the Editorial Board. More than one article of an author cannot be published in one issue.

- The manuscripts submitted to the journal are first examined by the editor(s) and the editorial board in terms of conformity with the journal's editorial principles, subject, presentation style, and technical aspects. The manuscripts deemed appropriate for the purpose and scope of the journal are sent to at least two referees whose works are recognised in the field for scientific review. If one of the referee reports is positive and the other is negative, the manuscript is sent to a third referee. The manuscript is published if the referee reports are positive and in line with the recommendations of the Editor(s) and the Editorial Board.

- The name of the author is not disclosed to the referees, and the name of the referee is not disclosed to authors, and the referee reports are kept for 5 years.

- All processes in the journal are carried out within the framework of the ethical principles recommended by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) for Social Sciences. The relevant ethical principles can be found at https://doi.org/10.24318/cope.2019.4.1.

- The referee checks all manuscripts submitted to the journal at the end of the referee process, and it is determined whether there is a similarity in the study and whether the citations are made by the scientific procedures. The article is rejected if the similarity rate is over 20% (excluding abstract, abstract and bibliography). Apart from this, if an ethical violation is detected or reported in any article published in the journal, the article in question will be removed even if it is published.

- The scientific and linguistic responsibility of the studies belongs entirely to the authors. The views and opinions expressed in the studies bind the authors and do not reflect the views of the journal and the institution. Authors are advised to follow the Turkish Language Association's spelling guide. However, the authors are still responsible for the spelling of the articles.

- National and international research and publication ethics must be followed in the studies.

- If the studies uploaded to the system do not comply with the journal's spelling and reference rules, the editor(s) will reject the article without submitting it to the approval of the editorial board.

- Studies uploaded to the system must be prepared using the article template.

Dr. Almasa Mulalić has been involved in the educational process of teaching English for the past fifteen years at both primary and university levels. After completing her undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Malaysia, she decided to continue her career in her homeland. In 2006, Dr. Mulalić successfully defended her master's thesis and earned a degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). She continued her interest in the field of linguistics during her doctoral studies and successfully defended a dissertation that explored the relationship between teaching methods, learning styles, and academic success. Dr. Mulalić has published a significant number of authored and edited books, book chapters, scientific research papers in recognized journals, scientific projects, and papers presented and/or published in local and international conference proceedings in the fields of linguistics, literature, and teaching methodology. She has also mentored twelve master's students who successfully defended their theses, as well as two PhD students. Dr. Mulalić began her career as an English language instructor in 2006 in Malaysia at University Tenaga Nasional. Prior to joining IUS, she worked as an assistant and teacher, and at IUS she advanced from the position of Senior Assistant to the position of Assistant Professor, which was awarded to her in 2014, and in 2019, she was promoted to Associate Professor. Over the past years, Dr. Mulalić has been involved in many activities such as conference preparation committees, lectures, postgraduate studies, teaching councils, etc. Dr. Mulalić is currently a member of the Senate at IUS and Dean of the Faculty of Education.

İlk, orta ve lise tahsilini İzmit'te tamamladı. 1985 yılında Ankara Üniversitesi, Dil ve Tarih-Coğrafya Fakültesi'nin Felsefe Bölümü'nü bitirdikten sonra Yüksek Lisans ve Doktora çalışmalarını Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde tamamladı. Doktora çalışmasını Alman felsefeci Martin Heidegger'in varlık kuramı üzerinde yaptı. 1993 yılında Türkiye’ye döndü. 1995'de Yardımcı Doçent ve 1997'de Doçent ve 2003’de Profesör oldu. Prof. Dr. A. Kadir ÇÜÇEN’in Mantık, Heidegger'de Varlık ve Zaman, Felsefeye Giriş, Orta Çağ Felsefesi Tarihi, Bilgi Felsefesi, Klasik Mantık, Liseler İçin Felsefe Ders Kitabı ve Liseler İçin Mantık Ders Kitabı adlı kitapları vardır. Yurt içinde çok sayıda sunduğu bildiri ve yazdığı makalelerinin yanı sıra Rusya ve ABD’inde Heidegger üzerine iki bildirisi; Rusya, Fransa ve ABD’inde yayınlanmış birer makalesi bulunmaktadır. 1999 yaz dönemi TÜBA burslusu olarak ABD’nin Duquesne Üniversitesi'nde teknoloji felsefesi üzerine araştırma yaptı. Halen Uludağ Üniversitesi, Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi, Felsefe Bölümü'nde öğretim üyesi olarak çalışmaktadır. Evli ve bir çocuk baba¬sıdır.

Fatih Özgökman 1974 yılında Türkiye'de doğmuştur. ilk, orta ve lise eğitimini Türkiye'de tamamlamıştır. Daha sonra 1993'te Gazi Üniversitesi İlahiyat Fakültesine girmiştir. Lisans eğitiminden sonra Ankara Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Felsefe ve Din Bilimleri Bölümünde Master yapmaya başlamış ve aynı enstitüde doktora programına devam etmiş ve Din Felsefesinde Doktora derecesi almıştır. Kilis 7 Aralık Üniversitesi Felsefe Bölümünde iki yıl yardımcı doçent olarak çalışmıştır. Halen Çanakkale On Sekiz Mart Üniversitesi Felsefe Bölümünde doçent olarak çalışmaktadır. 2017 Şubat ayında ÜAK tarafından Doçentlik ünvanını almaya hak kazanmıştır. Yayınlanmış üç kitabı vardır. İyi derecede İngilizce ve çok iyi derecede Arapça bilmektedir.
