Çocukluk Obezitesi ve Ağız Diş Sağlığına Etkileri

Year 2017, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 1 - 6, 01.01.2017

Abstract

Childhood Obesity and Effect to the Oral and Dental Health

Year 2017, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 1 - 6, 01.01.2017

Abstract

Nutrition is the use of nutrients for sustaining a healthy life and tissue growth and development. Proper nutrition is important not only for its positive effects on physical and cognitive health but also on dental health. Being healthy is as important for oral health as for general health.Obesity is multifactorial disorder characterized by metabolic, endocrine and behavioral changes when excessive amounts of body fat accumulate in the body and develops when the energy from food is more than that consumed by physical activity and the metabolism.Obesity, especially in children, has become a serious problem worldwide and is increasing in early childhood. Obesity prevention should begin in childhood. Adolescent and childhood obesity prepares the ground for adulthood. Therefore, the family and the school should be informed about adequate and balanced nutrition, physical activity and the environment. The dietary habits of children are the most important cause of both caries and childhood obesity. The main factor in the relationship between dietary factors of caries is the time during the direct interaction between the dental plaques and fermented carbohydrates.Pediatric dentists have not only responsibilities regarding the oral health of children, but also the general health of the children. Accordingly, patients should be carefully monitored closely. Every pediatric patient requires special attention but those with specific conditions such as obesity require even more attention
