This
study focuses on the investigation of the relationships between mineralogical
(content, average and largest grain diameter) and engineering parameters of
rocks. Polished section analyses of rocks were performed via clemex image
analysis system and motorized table which are integrated into the trinocular
research microscope that is a modern technique. Strong correlations
(r=0.76–0.81) were found between largest grain diameters of pyrite and
engineering parameters. The correlation degree between pyrite content and the
engineering parameters was generally obtained as moderate (r=0.52–0.71). The
similar correlation (r=0.47– 0.70) between average grain diameters of pyrite
and engineering parameters was determined. Meaningful relationships between the
internal friction angle (f) with the average and largest grain diameter
was found as 0.47 and 0.86, respectively. These results demonstrated that the
presence of pyrite in the rocks can affect the engineering parameters of the
rocks.
