Primary First Grade Teachers’ Views About Developing Students’ Literacy Skills Proficiency

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the developing students’ literacy skills proficiecy levels of first grade teachers. In this descriptive study the data was collected by a questionnaire. For this, the Developing Literacy Skills Proficiency items (DLSP) which are developed by MEB and one dimension of Primary Teachers’ Private Area Proficiencies have been transformed into a questionnaire. The questionnaire has been applied to 67 primary teachers. The determination of the sample group has done according to stratified sampling. At the end of the research it has been understood that the teachers implement the behaviours in DLSP frequently. When teachers’ opinions do not differentiate according to their gender and seniority, they show significiant differences according to schools’ socioecomic status. The teachers’ opinions who works in a school with a lower socioeconomic status about DLSP are lower than the teachers who works int the schools which has middle and upper socioeconomic status
