The Effect of Curriculum Development Course on Preservice Teachers' Cognitive Awareness of Curriculum Development
Abstract
The general purpose of this study is to analyze changes in pre-service taechers’ cognitive awareness
levels of curriculum development who have taken curriculum development course. This study had a control group
pre-test – post-test design. The study was carried out in the Department of Pre-school Teaching at Mevlana
University in the first term of the 2012-2013 academic year. The sample consisted of a total of 67 sophomore preservice
teachers. Data were collected through the “Cognitive Awareness of Curriculum Development Scale”
developed by the researcher. The scale is composed of eight factors and 101 items. Moreover, its Cronbach’s alpha
coefficient was calculated as ,980. Paired- and independent-samples t tests were employed to determine whether preservice
teachers’ pre-test and post-test scores do differ significantly or not. Moreover, effect size (effect range=eta
square= η2) correlation coefficients were calculated. As a result, it was found out that cognitive awareness levels of
pre-service teachers are higher after curriculum development course

Program Geliştirme Dersinin Öğretmen Adaylarının Program Geliştirmeye İlişkin Bilişsel Farkındalık Düzeyine Etkisi
Abstract
Bu araştırmanın genel amacı, program geliştirme dersi alan öğretmen adaylarının program geliştirmeye ilişkin bilişsel farkındalık düzeylerindeki değişmeyi incelemektir. Araştırma, deneme öncesi (pre-experimental) desenlerden tek gruplu ön-test – son-test modeli dikkate alınarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2012-2013 akademik yılı güz döneminde Mevlana Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Okul Öncesi Öğretmenliği lisans programında ikinci sınıfta öğrenim gören ve “Program Geliştirme” dersine katılan 67 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Verilerin toplanmasında araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen “Program Geliştirmeye İlişkin Bilişsel Farkındalık Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Sekiz faktör ve 101 maddeden oluşan ölçeğe ait iç tutarlık değeri (Cronbach alpha) .980’dir. Öğretmen adaylarının, program geliştirmeye ilişkin bilişsel farkındalık düzeyleri ön-test ve son-test puanları arasında anlamlı bir farklılık olup olmadığını belirlemek amacıyla bağımlı ve bağımsız gruplar t testi uygulanmıştır. Ayrıca, etki büyüklüğü (etki genişliği = eta kare = η2) korelasyon katsayısı da hesaplanmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda, öğretmen adaylarının program geliştirmeye yönelik bilişsel farkındalık düzeylerinin program geliştirme dersinden sonra üst düzeyde ve olumlu yönde değiştiği tespit edilmiştir.
