An Investigation about High School Students’ Mathematics Anxiety Level According to Some Variables

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate high school students’ mathematics anxiety level according to school type, perceived primary and secondary mathematics teachers’ attitude and gender variables. The participants of the study consist of 252 high school students from a city of Central Anatolia during 2011-2012 education year. Research data were collected using by “Mathematics Anxiety Questionnaire”. The study results reveal that high school students' mathematics anxiety level was at medium level. Additionally there were considerable statistical differences among students’ mathematics anxiety levels according to perceived primary and middle school mathematics teachers’ attitude at some sub factors. We also found that Anatolian high school students’ anxiety level lower then vocational high school students’ anxiety level and there was significant difference among mathematics anxiety level of the students according to gender.
