A Research on Students’ Learning Styles and Their Attitudes toward Science and Technology

Abstract

This descriptive research which analyzes the relationship between learning styles and attitudes toward
the science and technology course was conducted with 444 primary school students in Istanbul. “The Learning Styles
Inventory” developed by Grasha (1996) and “The Attitude Scale of the Science and Technology Course” developed
by Nuhoğlu (2008) were administered. Data on students’ learning styles were analyzed through frequencies (f) and
percentages (%). Chi-square test, t test and one-way analysis of variance were also used. According to the results of
the study, it was found out that there was a significant difference between students’ learning styles and their gender
(p < 0.05), but there was not a significant difference between students’ attitudes and their gender. Moreover, it was
found out that there was no relationship between students’ learning styles and their attitudes toward the science and
technology course.

Öğrenme Stilleri ve Fen ve Teknoloji Dersine Yönelik Tutumlar Üzerine Bir Araştırma

Abstract

İlköğretim öğrencilerinin sahip oldukları öğrenme stillerinin ve fen ve teknoloji dersine ilişkin tutumlarının
incelendiği betimsel nitelikteki bu araştırma, İstanbul ili Kadıköy ilçesinde bir ilköğretim okulunda 444 ilköğretim
ikinci kademe öğrencisinin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Katılımcılara Grasha (1994) tarafından geliştirilen
“Öğrenci Öğrenme Stilleri Ölçeği” ve Nuhoğlu (2008) tarafından geliştirilen “Fen ve Teknoloji Dersi Tutum Ölçeği”
uygulanmıştır. Toplanan verilerin çözümlenmesinde, öğrenme stillerinin belirlenmesinde frekans (f) ve yüzde (%)
dağılımları, t testi, ki-kare testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Bulgulara dayalı olarak
çalışmaya katılan tüm öğrencilerin öğrenme stillerinin cinsiyetlerine göre anlamlı düzeyde farklı olduğu (p < 0,05)
söylenebilir. Fen ve Teknoloji dersine yönelik tutum ölçeğinden aldıkları puanların ortalamaları arasında cinsiyet
açısından anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmadığı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin fen ve teknoloji dersine yönelik
tutumları ile öğrenme stilleri arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmamıştır
