Abstract

Considering a social scientist in isolation from the societal conditions in which they are embedded would mean disregarding the very circumstances that shape their intellectual universe; hence, such an approach cannot be regarded as valid. In this light, the founding figures of the Western social-scientific tradition – including Marx, Weber, and Durkheim – must not be analysed apart from the societal conditions that moulded their thought worlds. Similarly, Theodor W. Adorno, the German sociologist and philosopher associated with the Frankfurt School, is a social scientist whose ideas were profoundly influenced by social reality and, as Bouché puts it, by his identity as an assimilated Jew, even if he was an assimilated one. Theodor W. Adorno’s book Aspects of the New Right-Wing Radicalism (originally combining two lectures: “The Meaning of Working Through the Past” (1959) and “Aspects of the New Right-Wing Radicalism” (1967)) brings together these two conferences. In both lectures, Adorno addresses interrelated issues and traces the trajectory of right-wing ideology in German society.

Abstract

Bir sosyal bilimcinin içinde bulunduğu toplumun koşullarından ayrı olarak düşünülmesi, zihin dünyasını şekillendiren koşulların göz ardı edilmesine sebep olacağından, doğru bir yaklaşım teşkil etmeyecektir. Bu çerçevede, aralarında Marx, Weber ve Durkheim’ın da bulunduğu, Batı sosyal bilim geleneğinin kurucu aktörlerinin düşünce dünyalarının şekillendirmesinde rol oynayan toplumsal koşullardan ayrı olarak ele alınmamaları gerekir. Benzer şekilde, Frankfurt Okulu temsilcisi Alman sosyolog ve Felsefeci Theodor W. Adorno da toplumsal gerçekliğin ve Boucher’in ifadesiyle, asimile olmuş bir Yahudi olsa da bu kimliğinin etkisiyle düşünceleri şekillenen bir sosyal bilimcidir. Theodor W. Adorno’nun, Yeni Sağ Radikalizmin Veçheleri ve Geçmişin İşlenmesi Ne Demektir adlı eseri, 1959’daki “Geçmişin İşlenmesi Ne Demektir” ve 1967’daki “Yeni Sağ Radikalizmin Veçheleri” adlı iki konferansının bir araya getirilmesinden oluşmaktadır. Adorno her iki konferansta birbirini tamamlayan meseleleri ele almakta ve Alman toplumunda Sağ ideolojinin serüvenini ortaya koymaktadır.
