A Critical Look to The Divine Knowledge Understanding of Classical Kalâm
Abstract
Human thought is based on philosophy of existence and knowledge. Being is the compulsory condition of knowledge, so there is no knowledge for non-existent. Muslim theologians categorize the being into two: witness and unseen. Knowledge of unseen is defined as divine knowledge based on rational knowledge whereas knowledge of witness in the Kalam is human knowledge based on real reason. Since human knowledge depends on the laws of physics, it is understandable. But, divine knowledge has got some problems as it is considered independent of the laws of physics. The most important among those is the one related to the facilities and limitations before the presence depending on the consideration of divine knowledge as eternal. In this paper, some inferences have been made related to the value of the divine knowledge and how it should be understood by analyzing basic analysis in Muslim culture related to the nature of divine knowledge before existence.
