Visual reading is one of the basic language skills such as reading, writing, reading, listening and speaking involved in Turkish teaching. Having been addressed as a separate learning area for the first time in the 2005 Turkish Language Teaching Program (grades 1-5), visual reading education included achievements and activities which targeted students. In addition, visual reading education was based on the constructivist approach and aimed at the acquisition of high level thinking skills by students. With the advances in technology in our age, visual reading is becoming more and more important. Within this context, this study investigates the place and importance of visual reading in Turkish teaching and addresses the activities focused on visual reading skills and materials used in visual reading skills.
