General Evaluation of Pisidia Stadiums

Abstract

In this study, the stadions in the Pisidian Region were examined. In this context, three cities with stadions were identified in the region. These buildings include the Pisidia Antiocheia stadion, the stadion (?) in the Sanctuary of Men associated with the city, and the Sagalassos and Selge Stadions. The building in the Sanctuary of Men, having a plan similar to a one sphendone, is called odeion or small theater in some sources, while it is referred to as stadion in others. This building is thought to be an odeion according to the available information. The identified stadions are U-shaped and have a single sphendone. The plan of the Sagalassos Stadion is uncertain. It is possible to say that the structures are generally exposed to extreme damage. For this reason, the data we have is not sufficient. It is expected that with further research in the Pisidian Region, the number of stadion identified in 3 ancient cities would increase. The stadions identified are presented with an overview, focusing on their location and technical features.

PİSİDİA STADİONLARININ GENEL DEĞERLENDİRMESİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Pisidia Bölgesi’ndeki stadionlar incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda bölgede stadiona sahip üç kent tespit edilmiştir. Bu yapılar, Pisidia Antiocheia Stadionu ve kent ile ilişkili Men Kutsal Alanında bulunan stadion (?), Sagalassos ve Selge Stadionlarıdır. Men Kutsal Alanı’nda tek sphendoneye benzer plandaki yapı, bazı kaynaklarda odeion ya da küçük tiyatro olarak adlandırılırken, bazı kaynaklarda ise stadion olarak belirtilmiştir. Bu yapının mevcut verilerden odeion olduğu düşünülmektedir. Tespit edilen stadionlar U formda ve tek sphendoneye sahiptir. Sagalassos Stadionun ise planı belirsiz bir durumdadır. Yapıların genel olarak aşırı derece tahribata uğradığını söylememiz mümkündür. Bu sebeple elimizde olan veriler yeterli değildir. Pisidia Bölgesi’nde yapılacak olan araştırmaların artırılması ile 3 kentte tespit edilen stadion sayısının artması beklenmektedir. Tespit edilen stadionların konum ve teknik özellikleri üzerinde durularak, genel bir bakış açısı ile sunulmuştur.
