TRACES OF CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIA IN GLOBAL ECONOMY: PUBLIC FINANCE BALANCE, TRADE VOLUME, INFLATION, UNEMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic has caused numerous deaths globally. The global pandemic has not only threatened public health, but has also disrupted the supply-demand balance and brought trade activities to a halt.The epidemic, economically has influenced to cover almost all of the sectors. With the income losses it caused, it negatively affected the welfare of individuals and society. The coronovirus pandemic has left the world facing an unprecedented economic crisis, with its speed, depth and scope. At the brink of the global crisis, the economic risks as well as the public health and medical risks of the pandemic are of utmost importance. The COVID-19 outbreak seriously affects worldwide economic activities. In this context, some global indicators are used in order to follow the effects of the pandemic on the world economy. Global public financial balance, global unemployment rates, global inflation rates, global trade volume and global growth rates are included. These indicators have been chosen because they are in direct relationship with each other and there is a close cause-effect relationship between the indicators. Selected indicators are analyzed in the period between 2000-2019 realization and 2020-2021 estimations. Thus, the effects of the 2008 global crisis in the recent past and the coronavirus pandemic are compared with each other. In addition, the negative picture that the coronavirus pandemic in the near future is expected to create on a global scale is presented. The reasons of the setbacks caused by coronovirus pandemic in the light of the numerical indicators and the scenarios drawn as a result are examined.

KORONAVİRÜS PANDEMİSİNİN KÜRESEL EKONOMİDEKİ İZLERİ: KAMU FİNANSAL DENGESİ, TİCARET HACMİ, ENFLASYON, İŞSİZLİK VE EKONOMİK BÜYÜME

Abstract

Koronavirüs pandemisi küresel çapta çok sayıda ölümlere yol açmıştır. Küresel pandemi yalnızca halk sağlığını tehdit etmekle kalmamış arz-talep dengesini bozarak ticaret faaliyetlerini de durma noktasına getirmiştir. Sektörlerin neredeyse tamamını kapsayacak şekilde ekonomi açıdan etkisi altına almıştır. Yol açtığı gelir kayıplarıyla bireylerin ve toplumun refahını olumsuz etkilemiştir. Koronovirüs pandemisi hızı, derinliği ve etki alanıyla tüm dünyayı şimdiye kadar görülmemiş bir ekonomik krizle yüz yüze bırakmıştır. Söz konusu küresel krizin eşiğinde pandeminin halk sağlığı ve tıbbi alandaki riskleri kadar, ekonomik riskleri de son derece büyük önem arz etmektedir.
Kovid-19 salgını dünya çapında ekonomik faaliyetleri ciddi şekilde etkilemektedir. Bu çerçevede çalışmada pandeminin tüm dünya ekonomisi üzerinde etkilerini takip edebilmek için bazı küresel göstergelerden yararlanılmaktadır. Küresel kamu finansal dengesi, küresel işsizlik oranları, küresel enflasyon oranları, küresel ticaret hacmi ve küresel büyüme oranlarına yer verilmektedir. Söz konusu göstergeler birbirleri ile doğrudan ilişki içerisinde olmaları ve göstergeler arasında yakın neden-sonuç ilişkilerinin bulunmasından dolayı seçilmişlerdir. Seçilen göstergeler 2000-2019 arası gerçekleşme ve 2020-2021 tahmin hesaplamalarına sahip zaman diliminde incelenmektedir. Böylece yakın geçmişte yaşanan 2008 küresel krizi ile Koronavirüs pandemisi etkileri birbiri ile kıyaslanmaktadır. Ayrıca yakın gelecekte Koronavirüs pandemisinin küresel boyutta yaratması beklenen olumsuz tablo ortaya konulmaktadır. Koronovirüs pandemisinin rakamsal göstergeler ışığında meydana getirdiği aksaklıkların sebepleri ve sonucunda çizilen senaryolar irdelenmektedir.
