Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı, obez bireylerde beden algısı ve yaşam kalitesi arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Beden algısının bireyin psikolojik ve sosyal işlevselliğini ne ölçüde etkilediğini anlamak, özellikle obezite gibi çok boyutlu bir sağlık sorunu bağlamında oldukça önemlidir. Çalışmada, beden algısındaki değişimlerin yaşam kalitesi üzerindeki yansımaları değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Kolayda örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen 18–60 yaş arası obez bireylerden çevrimiçi anket formu aracılığıyla veriler toplanmıştır. Veri toplama sürecinde, Sosyo demografik Bilgi Formu, Beden Algısı Ölçeği ve Kilonun Yaşam Kalitesine Etkisi Ölçeği – Kısa Sürüm (IWQOL-Lite) kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler betimsel olarak analiz edilmiş ve değişkenler arasındaki ilişkiyi test etmek amacıyla Pearson korelasyon analizi uygulanmıştır.
Araştırma bulguları incelendiğinde beden algısı ile yaşam kalitesi arasında zayıf düzeyde, negatif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu görülmüştür. Bu durum, beden algısı olumlu yönde artsa da obez bireylerin sosyal çevreden gelen yargılayıcı tutumların damgalama ve ayrımcılık algıları nedeniyle yaşam kalitesi üzerinde olumlu algıyı sınırlayabileceği şeklinde yorumlanabilir. Obez bireylerde beden algısını iyileştirmek yaşam kalitesine tek başına güçlü bir katkı sunmayabilir. Yalnızca bireysel müdahalelere değil, aynı zamanda toplumsal düzeyde damgalamayı azaltmaya yönelik stratejilere de ihtiyaç vardır. Gelecekteki araştırmalar, beden algısının yaşam kalitesi üzerindeki etkisini belirleyen aracı değişkenleri daha ayrıntılı biçimde incelemelidir.
