Communication has been one of the first phenomena learned by human beings, who have been in a constant effort to grasp, interpret, and make sense of things since their existence. The concept of semiotics is known as the branch of science that studies the way of communication through writing and signs. It is a compass for exploring the meanings hidden beyond the visible images. Semiology design is concerned with comprehension and grasping. In other words, its purpose is to find and reveal the codes of the messages presented directly or indirectly at the interpretation point of the design. Semiotics continues to its' function, regardless of language or visual element. In this process, it evaluates the objects and phenomena it uses from different point of views. While analyzing based on semeiology, written and visual elements are evaluated together with many variables such as culture, social situation, language, religion and geography.
The method of this research consisted of two dimensions: theory and practice. In the first step of the study, the literature review method, which is one of the social science research methods, was used in terms of making up a theoretical basis. In the analysis of the selected posters, the semiotic analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was employed. During the implementation of this study, three basic elements, starting with Saussure and shaped by Barthes, namely, "sign", "object" and "interpretant" were utilized. We aimed to convey the meanings of the signs in the selected poster designs to the audience and to explain the hidden references behind the reference system. In this context, three posters that were ranked in the "Fake News" category of the international poster competition, “Poster for Tomorrow”, were analyzed.
