Dictionaries, which are the recorded memory of words and meaning patterns and document the vocabulary of the language they belong to, are the greatest heritage of a nation, the language treasure. The effectiveness of people who think, speak and write with words in their comprehension-explanation skills is in line with the richness of the vocabulary they use. Understanding the value of dictionaries, which are reference books in learning the vocabulary of a language, is directly related to the habit of using a dictionary, which the individual will acquire with the ability to use a dictionary. It is a resource in the acquisition of language skills, and individuals who have the ability to use a dictionary should have the skills to read a dictionary in order to gain the habit of using this resource work. ndividuals who have the ability to read a dictionary; By reading the meanings of words, terms and phrases, as well as the abbreviations and signs in the dictionary, one can become dictionary literate with the awareness of the functionality of the dictionary. The purpose of this research is to determine the dictionary usage habits and dictionary reading skills of secondary school students. In the research, a qualitative research model was used, which aims to reveal the current situation of students regarding their dictionary use and their ability to read a dictionary. The participants of the research, in which the qualitative research model was used, consisted of 24 students studying in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8 classes. As a data collection tool in the research, an interview form was used to determine the dictionary usage habits and dictionary reading skills of secondary school students, and the data of the form were interpreted with qualitative analysis techniques. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the students did not know many functions of the dictionaries, did not have the ability to read the dictionary, and perceived the dictionary as a course material.
