In the study, how and for what purposes the Cumhur alliance used the concepts of “national will” and “ national survival” to win the vote of the people and win the election in the June 24, 2018 elections, which led to the transition from the parliamentary system to the Turkish presidential system, was analyzed through the Turkish press of the period. Within the scope of the study, the one-month period before the election (23 May 2018 – 23 June 2018), in which the election works are concentrated, was determined as the time limit of the analysis. In order to be inclusive of different ideological segments, Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet and Turkey newspapers were discussed within the scope of the analysis. In the research, the political discourses of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Justice and Development Party and the Nationalist Movement Party, which were reflected in the newspapers, were analyzed. Critical discourse analysis was used as a research method in the study. In critical discourse analysis, used the analysis framework which was created by Wodak, was used to analyze the discourses of right-wing populist political parties. As a result of the evaluations made, it was determined that in political discourses based on the concepts of "national will" and "survival", the whole people wanted to be reduced to a homogeneous singularity within the framework of the "real people" fiction. In the analyzed discourses, it has been determined that there is an attempt to implement a single identity, one political view and a people's ideal that coincides with the leader. In the study, it was found that the categorization of “we” and “they”, supported by traditional-conservative values, was emphasized in the rhetoric of the Cumhur Alliance, which emphasized “national will” and “national survival”. As a result of the research, it was found that the cumhur alliance adopted a strategy in accordance with the populist understanding of politics in its rhetoric, which includes the concepts of national will and national survival.
