The comparison of color stability of composite resins after ımmersion in different drinks

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability of different composite resins upon exposure to different drinks which were highly consumed in daily life. Materials and methods: Twenty-five disc-shaped (15×2 mm) cylindrical specimens were prepared for each of 6 different composite resins (Filtek Silorane, Aelite Aesthetic Enamel, Quixfill, Ceram X Mono, Grandio, IntenS). The specimens of each composite resin groups were divided into 5 subgroups (n=5) for storage for 48 hours at 37°C in different types of solutions: water, coffee, tea, cola, and red wine. The color values of all groups were measured before and after exposure to different solutions with a colorimeter (Minolta CR-300). Data were recorded according to the CIE L*a*b* system and then color changes (ΔE*) were calculated. The statistical analysis of the color variation data included a 2way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the means were compared by Tukey HSD test (α=.05). Results: For the 6 restorative materials tested, the lowest ΔE* values were observed in the water immersed group (p<0.05). The highest color differences were observed in the red wine and coffee immersed groups (p<0.05). When comparing the restorative materials, Aelite Aesthetic Enamel and Filtek Silorane demonstrated significantly showed less color change than the other composite groups (p<0.05). Conclusions: Discoloration of composite resins is based on the composition of the composite resins as well as the type of the drinks. Silorane-based composite resins are resistant to external discoloration.

Farklı içeceklerde bekletilen kompozit rezinlerin renk stabilitelerinin karşılaştırılması

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı günlük hayatta sıkça tüketilen içeceklerde bekletilen farklı kompozit rezinlerin renk stabilitelerini değerlendirmektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Altı farklı kompozit rezin grubundan (Filtek Silorane, Aelite Aesthetic Enamel, Quixfill, Ceram X Mono, Grandio, IntenS) disk şeklinde (15x2mm) 25’er adet örnek hazırlandı. Her bir kompozit grubunda hazırlanan örnekler 5 alt gruba ayrılarak (n=5) farklı tipteki solüsyonlarda (su, kahve, çay, kola ve kırmızı şarap) 37°C’ de 48 saat süresince bekletildi. Bütün gruplardaki kompozit örneklerin renk değerleri solüsyonlarda bekletilmeden önce ve bekletildikten sonra kolorimetre cihazı (Minolta CR-300) ile ölçüldü. Veriler CIE L*a*b* sistemine göre kaydedilerek renk farklılıkları (ΔE*) hesaplandı. Renk değişimlerinin istatistiksel analizi çift yönlü varyans analizi (Two-way ANOVA) ile yapılırken ortalamaların çoklu karşılaştırılması için Tukey HSD testi (α=.05) kullanıldı. Bulgular: Test edilen 6 farklı kompozit rezin için en düşük ΔE* değerleri su içerisinde bekletilen gruplarda tespit edilmiştir (p<0.05). En yüksek renk değişimi ise kırmızı şarap ve kahvede bekletilen gruplarda tespit edilmiştir (p<0.05). Restoratif materyaller karşılaştırıldığında Aelite Aesthetic Enamel, ve Filtek Silorane gruplarında belirgin olarak daha az renk değişimi gözlenmiştir (p<0.05). Sonuç: Kompozit rezinlerde oluşan renklenmelerin içeceğin tipi ve rezin kompozitin bileşimi ile ilgili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Siloran esaslı kompozit rezinler dışsal renklenmelere karşı dirençlidir.
