ORAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES IN PATIENTS WITH OSTEOPOROSIS

Abstract

Osteoporosis is a progressive systemic bone disease that is characterized by an increase in fragility, decreased bone volume and risk of fracture. It affects the cancellous part of the bone as well as its cortical part. The most important complication of osteoporosis on oral and maxillofacial components is the decrease in bone mass and density and periodontitis. There is no definitive contraindication associated with maxillofacial surgical procedures in this group of patients; almost all of the related surgical procedures could be applied if the suitable circumstances will be ensured. This review is focused on the particular points of the oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures including dental implant procedures in patients with osteoporosis

OSTEOPOROZ HASTALARINDA ORAL CERRAHİ UYGULAMALAR

Abstract

Osteoporoz, ilerleyici karakterde bir sistemik kemik hastalığı olup, artmış frajilite, düşük kemik kütlesi ve kırık riski ile karakterizedir. Osteoporoz, hem kortikal hem de kansellöz kemiğin yapısını etkilemektedir. Osteoporozun oral ve maksillofasiyal yapılar üzerine olan en önemli etkileri; kemik hacmi ve dansisitesinde azalma ile periodontitistir. Bu hasta grubunda oral ve maksillofasiyal cerrahi işlemler için kesin kontraendikasyon bulunmamakla beraber, uygun durum ve koşulların sağlanarak pre- ve postoperatif dönemde komplikasyondan uzak sonuçlar elde edilebilir. Bu derlemede,  osteoporozlu hastalarda dental implant uygulamaları da dahil olmak üzere oral ve maksillofasiyal cerrahi işlemlerde dikkat edilmesi gereken hususlar derlenmiştir.
