Ozone And Its Usage In Dentistry

Abstract

The aim of modern dentistry is development of preventive approaches non-invasive techniques instead of invasive techniques in the treatment of dental caries to avoid unnecessary loss of substance. Currently accepted treatment approach is the early diagnosis of caries, to arrest the progression of established lesions and to enhance the natural process of lesion repair by remineralization. One of the protective and preventive approaches used for this purpose is ozone (O3) application. For many years, ozone is widely used in medicine because of strong anti-oxidant effect and powerful antimicrobial agent also used in dentistry in recent years. The aim of this review is to introduce the ozone and give information about the use of various areas in dentistry.

Diş Hekimliğinde Ozon ve Kullanım Alanları

Abstract

Modern diş hekimliğinin amacı, diş çürüklerinin tedavisinde gereksiz madde kaybını önlemek amacıyla invaziv tedavi tekniklerinden çok non-invaziv ve koruyucu yaklaşımların geliştirilmesidir. Günümüzde kabul edilen tedavi yaklaşımı, çürüklerin erken teşhis edilebilmesi, ilerlemesinin önlenebilmesi ve remineralizasyonun sağlanabilmesidir. Bu amaçla kullanılan koruyucu ve önleyici yaklaşımlardan biri de ozon (O) uygulamasıdır. Uzun yıllardır güçlü antioksidan etkisinden dolayı tıpta geniş kullanım alanı bulan ozon, son yıllarda diş hekimliğinde de kullanılan güçlü bir antimikrobiyal ajandır. Bu derlemenin amacı ozonun tanıtılması ve diş hekimliğinde çeşitli alanlarda kullanımı hakkında bilgi vermektir.
