EFFECTS OF MENTORİNG COURSE ON THE OPİNİONS OF THE NURSES ON MENTOR

Year 2018, Volume: 21 Issue: 2, 123 - 129, 06.07.2018

Abstract

Aim:
This study was conducted to assess the effect of the guide nursing
course on the opinions of nurses about guide nursing.

Materials
and Methods:
The sample of the study was 221 nurses who
worked in a university hospital and agreed to participate in the research. Data
from the pre-test and post-test single-group semi-experimental study were
collected before and after the guide nursing course using the questionnaire
form between 06-08 February 2017. The number, percentage, mean and standard
deviation of the study were analyzed with McNemar tests.

Results:
When the opinions of the nurses on the duties of the guide nurse were
examined, it was stated that "undertaking the responsibility of the
educator in practice" (p<0.001) and "providing necessary evidences
to evaluate the student's success" (p<0.001) opinions were found to
change significantly in the positive direction after the training compared to
before the training.
When the opinions of the nurses on the role
behaviors of the guide nurse were examined, it was determined that
"addressing students by name" (p<0.001), "no repressive
attitudes when mentoring" (p<0.001), "interviewing with the
student about how to improve performance (p<0.001), "critical thinking
and helping to investigate the subjects in depth" (p<0.001) opinions
were found to change significantly in the positive direction after the training
compared to before the training.

Conclusion:
These findings showed that the given courses have a positive influence
on the opinions of nurses about guide nursing.

Year 2018, Volume: 21 Issue: 2, 123 - 129, 06.07.2018
