KEŞFEDİCİ KARMA DESEN KULLANILARAK ÖĞRENCİ POPÜLERLİK ALGISI ÖLÇEĞİNİN GELİŞTİRİLMESİ

Abstract

DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENT POPULARITY PERCEPTION SCALE THROUGH THE USE OF EXPLORATORY MIXED METHOD DESIGN

Year 2021, Issue: 43, 372 - 394, 29.12.2021
https://doi.org/10.33418/ataunikkefd.821186

Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that determines the popularity perception levels of high school students in school using exploratory mixed design. This research was carried out in two stages, qualitative and quantitative. In the qualitative phase of the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 48 high school students on the characteristics of popular students in high schools. After these interviews, six main themes (friendship relations, relationships with teachers, self-confidence, clothing and fashion, physical attraction, sports and artistic activities) related to student popularity perceptions were determined and scale items were prepared within the framework of these themes. In the quantitative phase of the study, the scale items, which were prepared first, were applied to 282 high school students, and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), then Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was applied to 148 different high school students. The correlation evidences between Student Popularity Perception (PAS) and life satisfaction, loneliness and self-esteem developed later were used for convergent-divergent validity validity. As a result, it was seen that the dimensions discovered in the qualitative stage were confirmed in the quantitative stage and that these dimensions could be generalized to the universe through scale items.
