Year 2008, Volume: 12 Issue: 2, 413 - 426, 18.02.2010

Abstract

Abstract: This study investigates the relationship between regional public
expenditures and regional economic growth. In this study proportion to regional
product of regional government expenditure, and per capita regional product
growth ratio variables were used. The study covers seven geeoraphic regions in
Turkey for the period 1990–2001. Fixed effect model was used for panel data
analysis. In the study, we used panel data unit root tests which are popular after
end of 1990’s. The results show that there is a negative but statistically
insignificant relationship between regional public expenditures and regional
economic growth.

Key Words: Regional public expenditures, regional economic growth, panel data
analysis, panel data unit root tests
