Dehumanisation in Caryl Churchill’s Seven Jewish Children

Year 2020, Volume: 24 Issue: 2, 605 - 623, 21.06.2020

Abstract

Theorised in the 2000s, dehumanisation, the practice of which has been common since ancient times, is based on the assumption that other people or groups are less human. The aim of this article is to examine dehumanisation, a phenomenon which we frequently encounter in today’s societies, in Seven Jewish Children by Caryl Churchill who is one of the leading contemporary British playwrights. In this examination of dehumanisation, social identity theory, binary oppositions, otherness based on the oppositions of self and other, orientalism and dehumanisation theories are discussed in connection with each other. By doing so, this study aims to present a framed discussion about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that is still an ongoing issue today.

Caryl Churchill’in Seven Jewish Children Adlı Oyununda Gayri-İnsanileştirme Olgusu

Year 2020, Volume: 24 Issue: 2, 605 - 623, 21.06.2020

Abstract

Bu makalenin amacı çağdaş İngiliz tiyatrosunun önde gelen yazarlarından Caryl Churchill’in Seven Jewish Children isimli oyununda günümüz toplumlarında sıkça karşılaştığımız gayri-insanileştirme olgusunu ele almaktır.
