The Republic of Turkey is the longest border with Syria. This boundary started to take shape with the Ankara Agreement signed in 1921. Approximately 277 km of the 877 km long border belongs to Hatay. In fact, during the republic period, the last political border of Hatay - Syria was formed. This region was not a border region before the formation of national borders. Thus, smuggling activities in Aleppo and its surroundings were made from the Mediterranean coasts. During the Republican period, smuggling activities were concentrated on the borders of Southeast Anatolia and Syria. The Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia regions, which had previously had an economic unity with Syria, had to leave Syria after World War I. Of course, the process of separation has been difficult for the parties and in this process, the former trade has transformed into a smuggling area. Also, a substantial portion of this trafficking, which constitutes an important part of the Turkey-Syrian border took place on Hatay- Syrian border. So, when Hatay came up to the joining of Turkey and began political negotiations on this issue, those who want to take advantage of the difference in customs duty, Hatay State citizens with fond interest from Turkey to Hatay persons have abused this situation. Even, some people who sell their homes from big cities like Kayseri, Sivas, Istanbul, flock to Hatay, and a lot of caput cloth, car tire, tea, coffee, artificial silk fabrics and piece dress and shirting fabrics from Aleppo, etc. have started to import. The most important factor Smuggling come to this extent, was the difference in price between Turkey and Syria. In particular, in the first years of Hatay's homeland, the country's economy, mainly the province of Hatay, has begun to suffer greatly. Therefore, upon the request of the Hatay Governor's Office, the Ministry of Customs and the Undersecretary of Inspectors made investigations on the smuggling and border violations in Hatay Province in 1940. As a result of these investigations, the issues causing smuggling in the region were gathered under 6 headings. In this study, these six headings, which cause smuggling, will be studied.
