Abstract

Determining the political skill (PS) levels of the employees, how these skills can be benefited at the maximum level and its role in the career success (CS) of the employees are among the important issues in terms of tourism enterprises. In addition, the role of hotel managers' relationships with employees in motivating employees and in CS are issues that should be evaluated in terms of the effectiveness and efficiency of hotel businesses. In this direction, it is aimed to determine whether the leader-member interaction (LMX) mediates the relationship between the PS and CS of the employees in the research. The research was conducted in hotels in Istanbul, and a questionnaire was utilized as data collection tool. The research model was tested with the Process macro software, and the effect of the mediator variable was measured by the bootstrap method. According to the results of the research, it was determined that LMX mediated the relationship between PS and CS. Furthermore, implications were made in line with the research results. Accordingly, it is seen that it is crucial for employees to develop their abilities since PS has a more significant impact on CS than LMX. Therefore, employees developing other skills directly related to PS, such as communication, social intelligence, influencing people, or other skills such as negotiation, taking responsibility, and problem-solving in times of crisis, will pave the way for them to achieve high CS.

Kariyer Başarısına Politik Beceri ve Lider-Üye Etkileşiminin Etkisi: Otel İşletmelerine Yönelik Bir Araştırma

Year 2023, , 88 - 105, 28.02.2023
https://doi.org/10.53353/atrss.1175041
