The Relationship Between Landscape Metrics and Urban Physical Variables in Coastal Regions Developing Under the Tourism Effect: Erdemli District

Abstract

The efforts of authorities to create economic resource have led to a rapid increase in second homes in coastal regions since the 1980s. This study is based on the monitoring of land-use changes in the coastal regions of Erdemli district in Mersin, which has experienced a similar urbanization process, using percentage of landscape (PLAND), edge density (ED), largest patch index (LPI), shape index (SHAPE), fractal dimension (FRAC), perimeter area ratio (PARA), and patch density (PD) metrics for the years 1989, 1995, 2001, 2007, and 2019. The meaningfulness of the relationship between the obtained results and the physical variables of the city (the distances of the built-up areas‘centroid of the grid units to the nearest settlement, the nearest distances to the main road line, and the nearest distances to the coastline) was analysed with an Exploratory Factor Analysis. The results also revealed whether the variables can be evaluated meaningfully. According to the analysis results, PLAND, LPI, and ED metrics explained 41.71%, the nearest distances to settlement 26.08%, PARA 13.86%, and the nearest distances to main road 7.46% of the total variance.

Turizmin Etkisinde Gelişen Kıyı Bölgelerimizde Peyzaj Metrikleri ve Kent Fiziksel Değişkenleri Arasındaki İlişki: Erdemli İlçesi

Abstract

Otoritelerin ekonomik kaynak yaratma çabaları 1980’li yıllardan bu yana kıyı bölgelerinde ikinci konutların hızla çoğalmasına neden olmuştur. Bu çalışma, benzer bir yapılaşma sürecini tecrübe eden Mersin ili Erdemli ilçesi kıyı bölgelerinin 1989, 1995, 2001, 2007 ve 2019 yıllarına ait arazi kullanım değişiminin peyzajın yüzdesi (PLAND), kıyı yoğunluğu (ED), en geniş yama indeksi (LPI), şekil indeksi (SHAPE), fraktal boyut indeksi (FRAC), çevre alan oran dağılımı (PARA) ve yama yoğunluğu (PD) metrikleri ile izlenmesine dayanmaktadır. Elde edilen sonuçların kentin fiziksel değişkenleri ile (kentleşme ağırlık noktalarının en yakın yerleşim birim merkezlerine olan uzaklıkları, en yakın anayol hattına uzaklıkları ve kıyı çizgisine olan en yakın uzaklıkları) ilişkisinin ne kadar anlamlı olduğu Açımlayıcı Faktör Analizi ile sorgulanmıştır. Sonuçlar değişkenlerin anlamlı bir yapıda değerlendirilip değerlendirilmeyeceğini de ortaya koymuştur. Analiz sonuçlarına göre PLAND, LPI ve ED metrikleri toplam varyansın %41,71’ini, yerleşim birim merkezlerine olan uzaklıklar %26,08’sını, PARA metriği %13,86’sını ve anayol hattına en yakın uzaklık %7,46’sını açıklamıştır.
