In today's world, where information technologies are rapidly developing, the use of artificial intelligence tools is becoming increasingly widespread. The use of generative artificial intelligence tools in scientific studies provides significant contributions to scientists in developing and strengthening their research. However, the shortcomings of artificial intelligence tools based on large language models, such as the use of biased data, manipulation, and faulty coding, cast a shadow over the reliability and validity of scientific studies. In this regard, international and national scientific authorities and scientific journal boards are establishing policies regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence. In accordance with the principles of openness and transparency in scientific activities, authors submitting their studies to the Turkish Journal of Geographical Sciences are expected to comply with the rules specified below regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence.

• Generative artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as an author and/or co-author in any study. Artificial intelligence may be used as a supportive element within the limitations specified in scientific studies; however, the generation of a study entirely by artificial intelligence is not permitted.
• Authors who use generative artificial intelligence at any stage of their study (such as idea generation, literature review, data analysis, manuscript writing, translation, or visual creation) are obliged to report this transparently through our journal's "Declaration Form for the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence." Click here to access the relevant form of our journal. 
• Sensitive data obtained during the research process, interview transcripts belonging to participants, copyrighted materials, or raw data requiring confidentiality must not be uploaded to publicly accessible generative artificial intelligence platforms. The author is responsible for data breaches resulting from uploads to cloud systems. 
• Information and edits obtained through generative artificial intelligence must not compromise the originality and scientific nature of the study. The generative artificial intelligence tools and versions utilized throughout the study must be clearly stated in the declaration form, and the stages in which support was received must be transparently defined. The author(s) are responsible for any informational deficiencies and inaccuracies arising from the use of generative artificial intelligence. 
• Generative artificial intelligence tools cannot be used to produce graphics, tables, maps, etc., in a way that alters or manipulates scientific findings, or presents biased information. Generative artificial intelligence tools may be utilized for improvements that do not alter the underlying information of the figures. 
• In all studies accepted by the Turkish Journal of Geographical Sciences, the "Generative Artificial Intelligence Use Statement" under the Acknowledgments and Information heading must necessarily be completed by the author(s).
