Abstract

The effects of pH, initial dye concentration and incubation period on bioremoval of Remazol Blue (reactive diazo dye) was investigated in this study, with the microorganisms were isolated from textile wastewater. The strain that removed Remazol Blue most efficiently in the preliminary experiments performed at 30 °C on samples containing Remazol Blue and pH ranging from 6 to 10. The strain that removed Remazol Blue at the highest rate was selected. The optimum pH value was found as pH 8 for the strain. At constant temperature (30 °C) and initial Remazol Blue concentrations changing between 50400 mg/lt (pH 8), the strain showed its maximum dye removal rate at 50 mg/lt Remazol Blue concentration as 87.4%. The highest azoreductase activity of the selected strain was determined as 50.7 U/ml after the incubation time for 72 hours at pH 8 and 30 °C. Prolonged incubation periods decreased the enzyme activity. Ultimately the most efficient isolate has been selected
