The free banking view of money and banking has beeen discussed in recent years. In this discussion, Smith's analysis as a classical forerunner of free banking is very important. The purpose of this paper is to examine Smith's approach to money and banking. This paper's conclusion is that even though Smith, pardally, accepted regulation on money and banking, he generally supported free banking.
