Psychometric Properties of the Turkish version of the Barrett-Lennard Relationship Inventory

Abstract

Objective: The current study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Barrett-Lennard Relationship Inventory [BLRI]. The scale assesses the quality of the relationships with the Rogerian perspective. The inventory can be used to evaluate the quality of any relationship. In the current study, BLRI was used to measure perceived parental relationships. Method: The current study included 729 participants. Participants filled out the Barrett-Lennard Relationship Inventory, the Short Egna Minnen Betraffande Uppfostran-Memories of Upbringing (s-EMBU), the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Beck Anxiety Inventory. Results: To evaluate the reliability of the scale; item-total correlation, internal consistency, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability analyses were conducted. Results revealed that the scale had strong reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to examine the construct validity, and the four original factors of the scale were supported. To examine concurrent validity, correlations with EMBU subscales were calculated and obtained results indicated that all the factors of the two scales were significantly correlated in line with the expectations. Finally, criterion-related validity was examined, and it was found that the BLRI successfully differentiates between low and high anxiety and depression groups. Conclusion: The results of the current study showed that the Turkish version of the BLRI can be used as a reliable and valid instrument to measure perceived parental relationships in Turkish culture.

Barrett-Lennard İlişki Envanteri Türkçe Formunun Psikometrik Özelliklerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Rogeryen bakış açısı ile geliştirilmiş olan Barrett-Lennard İlişki Envanteri’nin [BLİE] Türkçe uyarlamasının, algılanan ebeveyn ilişkisi ölçümündeki geçerlik ve güvenilirliğini incelemektir. Yöntem: Araştırma 729 kişilik örneklem ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada Barrett-Lennard İlişki Envanteri, Algılanan Ebeveyn Tutumları-Kısa Formu, Beck Anksiyete Envanteri ve Beck Depresyon Envanteri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Ölçeğin güvenilirliğini saptamak için yapılan iç tutarlık, madde toplam korelasyon, test-tekrar test güvenilirliği ve iki yarım güvenilirliği analizleri BLİE’nin oldukça yüksek güvenilirlik değerleri olduğuna işaret etmiştir. Yapı geçerliğini test etmek için uygulanan doğrulayıcı faktör analizi ile ölçeğin orijinal dört faktörü doğrulanmıştır. Ölçeğin eş zaman geçerliği başka bir ebeveyn tutum ölçeği ile korelasyonları hesaplanarak test edilmiş ve iki ölçeğin tüm alt ölçekleri anlamlı olarak ilişkili bulunmuştur. Ölçeğin kriter geçerliğini destekleyecek şekilde ölçeğin toplam puanının ve tüm alt ölçeklerinin, yüksek ve düşük depresyon ve anksiyete gruplarını birbirinden anlamlı olarak ayırt edebildiği saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Bu çalışma ile Türkçeye uyarlanan envanterin algılanan ebeveyn ilişkisi ölçümünde geçerli ve güvenilir olarak kullanılabileceği desteklenmiştir.
