Abstract

Psychometric Properties of the Turkish Light Triad Scale

Year 2021, Volume: 8 Issue: 3, 535 - 556, 28.10.2021

Abstract

The aim of this study is to adapt the Light Triad Scale, which is positioned conceptually against the Dark Triad personality traits (narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy) into Turkish and to examine the psychometric properties of this adapted scale. For this purpose, data was collected online from a total of 402 participants: 47% female (N = 189) and 46.3% male (N = 186). In addition to the Light Triad Scale, the participants answered questions taken from the ‘Dark Triad Scale’, ‘Positivity Scale’, ‘Focusing on Positive’ sub scale of the ‘Scale of Forgiveness on Interpersonal Relationships’ and completed the Demographic Information Form. The findings of the analyses support the validity and reliability of the scale. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the three-factor structure of the scale indicating a good level of model fit. The study also analyzed the convergent and discriminant validity of the scale, and it was found that the scale was positively correlated with positivity and focusing on positive, and negatively correlated with the Dark Triad. Accordingly, the correlation patterns examined also support the construct validity of the Light Triad. Present findings are consistent with the literature that Light Triad personality traits form a framework for positive psychology concepts.
