An Evaluation of the Movie "Yol Ayrımı" in Terms of the Basic Concepts of Multi-Generational/Intergenerational Family Therapy

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explain the basic concepts of family systems theory and examine these concepts on the basis of the movie titled "Yol Ayrımı". In this regard, the basic concepts of family systems theory (i.e., differentiation of self, triangulation, sibling position, emotional systems of the nuclear family, family reflection process, emotional withdrawal, social regression, and intergenerational transition processes) were analyzed. Based on the analysis of the study, it can be inferred that Mazhar, who serves as the foundation for family analysis, shows low differentiation of self from both his parents and his offspring. Furthermore, it can be stated that Mazhar's relationship with his nuclear family and particularly his mother, as observed in the film, involves fundamental concepts of family systems theory such as triangles, emotional withdrawal, the emotional systems of the nuclear family, sibling position, and the family projection process. It was determined that it would be appropriate to examine the movie "Yol Ayrımı" in terms of the basic concepts of family systems theory, and the scenes, dialogues, and event patterns in the movie were evaluated using these concepts. This study might serve as an important resource for field researchers and practitioners who seek to understand and apply Bowen's theory.

“Yol Ayrımı” Filmi’nin Bowen Aile Sistemleri Teorisi’nin Temel Kavramları Açısından Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada aile sistemleri teorisinin temel kavramları açıklanmış, ardından Yol Ayrımı filmi kapsamında bu kavramların incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda; aile sistemleri teorisinin temel kavramları olan benliğin farklılaşması, üçgen, kardeş konumu, çekirdek ailenin duygusal sistemleri, aile yansıtma süreci, duygusal kopma, toplumsal gerileme, kuşaklar arası geçiş süreçleri incelenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında yapılan inceleme sonucunda aile analizine temel olan “Mazhar” karakterinin hem ebeveynlerinden hem de kendi çocuklarından farklılaşma düzeyinin düşük olduğu söylenebilir. Buna ek olarak filmde gözlemleme imkânı bulduğumuz Mazhar’ın hem çekirdek ailesi hem de annesiyle olan ilişkisinde üçgenler, duygusal geri çekilme, çekirdek ailenin duygusal sistemleri, kardeş konumu, aile yansıtma süreci gibi aile sistemleri teorisinin temel kavramlarının mevcut olduğu söylenebilir. Sonuç olarak “Yol Ayrımı” filminin aile sistemleri teorisinin temel kavramları açısından incelenmesi uygun bulunmuş; filmde yer alan sahneler, diyaloglar ve olay örüntüleri aile sistemleri teorisinin temel kavramları kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın, Bowen’ın teorisini anlamak ve uygulamak isteyen alan araştırmacıları ile uygulayıcılarına önemli bir kaynak sağlayabileceği düşünülmektedir.
