Öğretmen Adaylarının Gözünden Sosyal Adalet: Bir Metafor Çalışması

Abstract

Günümüzde dünya genelinde nitelikli eğitime erişim ve toplumsal eşitsizliklerin azaltılması, sürdürülebilir kalkınma hedeflerinin öncelikli konuları arasında yer almaktadır. Bu bağlamda, eğitim süreçlerinde önemli bir rol üstlenecek olan öğretmenlerin sosyal adalet kavramına ilişkin farkındalıklarının artırılması büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, öğretmen adaylarının sosyal adalet kavramına ilişkin algılarını metaforlar aracılığıyla ortaya koymaktır. Çalışma, nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından temel nitel araştırma desenine göre tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını 216 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak, demografik bilgiler ve metafor ifadesinden oluşan iki bölümlü bir anket formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Toplamda 95 farklı metafor üretilmiş, bunlardan 28’i birden fazla kişi tarafından tekrar edilmiştir. En sık kullanılan metaforlar sırasıyla terazi, su, güneş, oksijen, bina temeli, taş ve boş bardaktır. Metaforlar doğrultusunda öğretmen adaylarının sosyal adalet kavramına ilişkin algıları üç ana kategori altında toplanmıştır: yapısına ilişkin görüşler, işlevselliğine ilişkin görüşler ve varlığına ilişkin görüşler. Bu kategoriler kendi içinde çeşitli alt kategorilere ayrılmıştır. Terazi metaforu en çok kullanılan ifade olurken, katılımcıların bu metaforu genellikle eşitlik kavramı ile ilişkilendirdikleri görülmüştür. Bu durum, sosyal adalet ile eşitlik kavramları arasında bir kavramsal karışıklık yaşandığını göstermektedir. Elde edilen bulgular, öğretmen eğitimi programlarında sosyal adalet konusunun daha bütüncül ve eleştirel bir perspektifle ele alınması gerektiğine işaret etmektedir.

Social Justice through the Eyes of Pre-Service Teachers: A Metaphor Study

Abstract

Access to quality education and the reduction of social inequalities are key priorities in global sustainable development efforts. In this context, it is crucial that future teachers develop an awareness of social justice, as they play a vital role in promoting equity in education. This study aimed to explore pre-service teachers’ perceptions of social justice through metaphors. Designed as a basic qualitative study, the research involved 216 pre-service teachers from various grade levels and teaching programs. Data were collected using a two-part questionnaire: the first part gathered demographic information, while the second part included a metaphor completion prompt (“Social justice is like … because …”). Data were analyzed through content analysis. Participants generated 95 different metaphors, with 28 used by multiple individuals. The most frequent metaphors included scale, water, sun, oxygen, building foundation, stone, and empty glass. These metaphors were categorized under three main themes: structural views, functional views, and perceptions of existence. The scale metaphor was most commonly used, often associated with equality, indicating a conceptual confusion between equality and social justice. The findings highlight the need for teacher education programs to address social justice more critically and comprehensively to prepare future educators for equitable and inclusive teaching practices.
